The Placemaking Strategy for Weston-super-Mare town centre, commissioned by North Somerset Council, outlines a visionary ten-year plan aimed at transforming Weston into a healthier, greener, and more prosperous place to live, work, and visit. Collaborating with graphic designers, Burgess and Beech, a fresh place identity was developed to better promote Weston to current and potential residents, employers, investors, and tourists.
This strategy is the culmination of extensive community engagement, inviting the entire town to contribute. As a result, the publication reflects both the data gathered from local residents and the analysis and development of project proposals. The document presents a detailed micro-plan, consisting of various projects of different scales across the town centre, complete with estimated budgets and timelines. Some initiatives are large and long-term, while others are smaller, quicker, and more cost-effective. Certain projects have secured funding, while others will require ongoing investment over time.
A significant portion of the early work on the strategy was conducted in the lead-up to the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2020 lockdown, which had a notable impact on the town centre and its visitor economy. The proposals take into account the profound long-term effects on the community, the economy, and daily life. Please head to superweston.net for more information.
