I’m interested in the shared places of our neighbourhoods and cities. These collective stages and living rooms form the backdrop of our communities and our lives. Creativity is a powerful tool - how can we use it, universally and wisely, to make great places and experiences for everyone?
Super Weston was one of our first projects at urban scale. Starting out with a community wide vision to develop a new place identity and place strategy it became a whole town catalyst for incremental, positive change. We built on our experience of activating individual underused sites to create what we call a ‘microplan’. This step-by-step plan of many small things is a kind of antidote to a masterplan – instead of a grand far away vision it amplifies what is working well, pilots new ideas, smoothes transition, and creates a legacy on the journey from here and now to the future.
It turns out that each of our projects are not only a seed with huge potential in their own right but also part of a bigger microplan. This connectivity – from individual to whole - really inspires me and is embedded in everything we do.
