Our proposal for a vacant plot in Silvertown, East London reimagines this site as an active live/work community hub that provides workspace for creative companies and public spaces for the wider community to enjoy.  The project takes inspiration from and highlights this areas rich history through its narrative and a series of landscape interventions.

Built during the reign of Queen Victoria and during the height of the second industrial revolution the Royal Docks would have looked very different in the 1800s with a skyline of factory’s, warehouses, silos and chimneys. Inspired by these utilitarian buildings our proposal is composed of saw tooth roof profiles and vertical stacks of shipping containers resulting in a vibrant campus for new businesses to thrive.

Tall elements, pavilions and modern interpretations of iconic Victorian structures such as a bandstand for concerts and a dramatic gasometer amphitheatre for outdoor performances will give visual interest and draw visitors through the site.

This diverse campus of container buildings will be held together by an integrated landscape strategy that will transform the site into a green oasis. The use of renewable energy such as photovoltaic panels and rainwater collection will allow this temporary community to live off-grid.

This project builds upon our successful experience with Pop Brixton and would act as a catalyst for future regeneration of this area.
